Because 289 candidates are suspected of participating in multiple instances of examination malpractice, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has withheld their results until the investigations into the cases are complete.

The WAEC said in a statement that “these malpractices include collusion, impersonation, bringing foreign materials, including mobile phones, into the examination hall, and seeking external assistance.”

The statement did, however, add that the results of investigations would determine whether to release or cancel the candidates’ withheld results.

As of right now, WAEC has released the second set of provisional results for the 2023 private candidates’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
16 of the applicants have visual impairments.

Nonetheless, it showed that 1,231 of the candidates who signed up for the test were not present.

A total of 26,579 candidates registered for the English language course; however, only 25,422 of them took the test. Of these, 16,563, or 65.15 percent, received grades A1 to C6, 2,955, or 11.62 percent, received grade D7, 2,479, or 9.75 percent, received grade E8, and the remaining candidates received F9.

Additionally, according to WAEC, a total of 26,553 candidates registered for the mathematics course, and 25,055 of those candidates took the test. Of those, 11,260 candidates, or 44.94 percent, received grades A1 to C6, 3,183 candidates, or 12.70 percent, received grades D7, 3,349 candidates received E8, and the remaining candidates received F9.

It was explained that while 24,527 candidates registered for Integrated Science, only 22,813 took the exam. Of those, 11,751 (or 51.51 percent) received grades A1 through C6, 3,173 (or 13.91 percent) received a D7, 3,280 received an E8, and the remaining candidates received an F9.

A total of 18,755 candidates registered for Social Studies, but only 17,414 of them took the test; of these, 15,214, or 87.37 percent, received grades A1 to C6, 576, or 3.31 percent, received grades D7, 409, or 2.35 percent, received grades E8, and the remaining candidates, or F9, received grades.

The results of 289 candidates who are suspected of participating in various examination malpractice cases have not been released until the investigations into the malpractice cases are finished.

WAEC’s results database was well-secured, but the Council warned the public to be wary of con artists who contact candidates and demand payment through mobile money transfers in order to upgrade their results.

Institutions and organizations were advised to check the results that were provided to them directly from WAEC or use the online verification service on the WAEC website.
