Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former chief strategist and campaign manager, is currently facing charges of obstruction of justice for his refusal to cooperate with the congressional committee looking into the attack on the US Capitol.
The jury selection process for the 68-year-trial old’s at a court in Washington, DC, started on Monday.
Two counts of contempt of Congress were brought against the man who was once credited as being the driving force behind Mr. Trump’s win in the 2016 presidential election.
He had rejected subpoenas asking for his testimony and pertinent records about his involvement in campaigns to challenge Mr. Trump’s election loss in 2020 and to plan the protests that resulted in the deadly attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The committee has been particularly interested in Mr. Bannon’s communications with Mr. Trump in the days leading up to the attack, as well as the “war room” meetings he held with other important individuals at a hotel close to the White House in an effort to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s victory.
