Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful is set to appear before Parliament today, June 8, to spill the beans on the never-ending SIM card re-registration process.

People are on the edge of their seats as over 8 million subscribers, including prominent folks like the Speaker of Parliament, had their SIM cards turned off after missing the May 31 deadline.

A member of Parliament, Sam Nartey George, aired his concerns about the consequences faced by those whose SIM cards were deactivated due to the delay in getting the Ghana Card from the National Identification Authority.

MP George stressed that people’s lives and mobile money were stuck in limbo because the Ghana Card was nowhere to be found.

Originally, the SIM card registration campaign was supposed to have wrapped up on March 31, 2022, but it kept getting pushed back due to issues with getting the Ghana Card.

Now, almost 8 million mobile money accounts worth a whopping GH¢300 million have been deactivated because they weren’t registered.

The upcoming parliamentary inquiry aims to get answers from Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful about the SIM card re-registration mess.

People want to know why the Ghana Card is taking forever to be issued.
