In order to halt its statewide, indefinite strike action, the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) leadership has taken action.
This comes after the National Labor Commission (NLC) intervened and a deal was reached with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The purpose of the strike, which began on Monday, January 29, 2024, was to protest the government’s disdain for addressing their welfare concerns.
GTEC and GAUA have decided to drop the matter from the NLC and to continue communicating as needed, according to a memorandum of agreement they signed on Thursday.
Among other things, they have promised to do everything within their power to avoid a recurrence of this deadlock.
The Association’s National Chairman, Isaac Donkoh, emphasized in a Citi FM interview that the organization will put its members’ interests first and won’t rush into making any poor choices.
On Thursday, January 25, the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU), the Senior Staff Association of Public Universities, and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff were given an order by the National Labour Commission to end their current strike immediately.
The NLC contended that the unions’ compliance with this decision would be necessary in order to resolve the demands made by the striking teacher unions.
