The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has taken a decisive step by joining the FORUM, which comprises nine labor unions, in a planned withdrawal of their services on 2nd May, 2024 if the government fails to release the second-tier pension funds.
Dr. Yaw Baah, the Secretary-General of TUC, made this announcement during a conference held in Gomoa Fetteh, Central Region. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The forum has already given notice of a strike on 2nd May.
We want to send a clear message to the government that if they do not address the second-tier pension issue by 30th April, we will all join the strike. I shudder to think what might happen in this country if this is allowed to occur.”
Additionally, the leadership of the nine labor unions, including CLOGSAG, GMA, GRNMA, JUSAG, GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT, Ghana Association of Anesthetists, and GHOSPA, has already served notice to commence a nationwide strike on May 2, 2024.
This move by the TUC and other labor unions highlights the growing concern over the delayed release of the second-tier pension funds and the impact it may have on workers across various sectors. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
