Anthony Charles McPhee was received as an English guitarist. He founded the blues rock band Groundhogs, who backed Champion Jack Dupree and John Lee Hooker on UK concerts in the mid-1960s. He is often credited as ‘Tony McPhee’.
McPhee was given this name by the producer Mike Vernon who suggested adding ‘T.S.’ to his name when McPhee released a duet single with Champion Jack Dupree in 1966 called “Get Your Head Happy!,” to make it look more like an official blues name. It stands for Tough Shit.

According to the cause of death of McPhee, a message was posted on the group’s Facebook page confirming that McPhee died “peacefully at home” on June 6 from complications after a fall last year. He had also suffered a series of strokes in later life. In 2009, the first of these damaged his ability to sing, and he eventually retired from the group in 2015. He died at the age of 79.
