Another tidal flood that is still developing has uprooted hundreds of people from Abutiakope, Aborigines Beach, and the adjacent settlements in Keta, in the Volta region.
Damage was done to numerous structures as well as personal items worth thousands of Ghana cedis, including refrigerators, televisions, and kitchenware.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Promise Kofi Baccah, the Assembly member for the Abutiakope Electoral Area, stated that the incident took place early on Thursday, February 15.
He said, “A lot of people have been displaced, properties have been destroyed, and victims are now stranded.”
He claimed that summer hats, coconut trees, and other beachside amusement spots had been devastated by the tidal surge.
According to Mr. Baccah, hundreds of residents who had been made homeless were going to their relatives for safety because the authorities had not yet sent rescue teams to assist them.
“My people want the building of a sea defense wall to protect them from the tidal waves to save lives; we no longer need any relief items.”
The assembly member said that the tidal wave destroyed many of the victims who were left stranded, including farms, boats, canoes, and nets.
He urged everyone—individuals, businesses, philanthropists, and the government—to take immediate action to resolve the issue to prevent any unanticipated catastrophe.
The GNA said that some impacted persons were moving to different communities, while others were staying with friends and family.
