The residents of Winneba in the Central Region celebrated the annual Aboakyer Festival with great enthusiasm.

The festival, which celebrates the migration of Simpafo (the people of Winneba), involves a hunt for a live deer.

Prior to the hunt, the town paraded with two groups – Tuafo and Dentsifo – carrying their gods through selected routes as part of purification rites.

On the day of the hunt, Saturday, May 6, 2023, the youth of the town prepared themselves for the event, and there was massive celebration with drumming, dancing, and merry-making.

However, amidst the festivities, thieves took advantage of the crowded event and strategically placed themselves to hunt for ‘goodies’ from people’s bags and purses.

Among their victims was a fetish priestess who claimed to have been robbed of her iPhone, money, and purse.

Speaking to a reliable media source(Atinka TV), the woman, dressed in white with white markings, explained how it all happened.

“Someone stole my iPhone, my money, and my purse. Whoever took it, they should bring it; otherwise, they should remember that this is a festival, and the phone they have stolen, they will take it away and go and die,” she said.
