Techiman South Member of Parliament Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah has shown appreciation to Seidu Rafiwu with a cash reward of GH₵10,000 for his impressive feat of attempting the longest distance covered by foot.

Rafiwu achieved his goal by completing a 381km walk-a-thon from Techiman to Accra in 96 hours, concluding the challenging journey on Tuesday, April 30.

In a heartwarming video that has since gone viral, the MP can be seen handing over the cash gift in a white envelope to Rafiwu while commending him for his dedication and determination to set a new record.

“I should thank the team, you have done well. To say you are taking a walk from Techiman to Accra day and night, you must be courageous…you have done well,” the MP expressed his admiration during an interaction with Rafiwu and his team.

Rafiwu’s remarkable attempt began on Saturday, April 27, and after 96 hours of non-stop walking, he successfully reached his destination at the Independence Square in Osu, Accra on Tuesday, April 30.

The current record for the longest walking marathon stands at 228.930 kilometres and was achieved by America’s Jesse Casteneda in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, back in September 1976.

There were initial reports that Rafiwu collapsed during his record attempt upon reaching the Konongo township; however, he clarified that the video circulating on social media was from a scheduled recovery session conducted by the medical team and debunked the rumors of any collapse.
