Taylor Heinicke is an American football quarterback for the National Football League’s Washington Commanders. Heinicke attended Old Dominion University before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings in 2015. Heinicke has also played for the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, and Carolina Panthers, as well as the XFL’s St. Louis BattleHawks.

In 2020, Heinicke filled in for an injured Alex Smith in a Wild Card playoff game for Washington, and he started the majority of the 2021 season after Ryan Fitzpatrick was injured.
After Alex Smith was ruled out with an injury, Heinicke started the team’s Wild Card playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In a 31-23 loss, Heinicke completed 26 of 44 passes for 306 yards, threw a touchdown and an interception, and ran for a touchdown.
