The School of Thought, a youth-led organization, recently organized an educational fair in the Northern region to help SHS3 students make informed decisions about their future academic pursuits. The aim of the program was to provide students with a better understanding of the various university options available to them.
The Start Right event brought together representatives from six different universities to interact with the students and showcase the diverse range of higher education opportunities in the country. According to the organizers, many students in northern Ghana are often unaware of the wide array of institutions and courses available outside their immediate region.
Speaking at the event, the founder of the School of Thought, Abraham Agoni emphasized the importance of expanding students’ horizons and encouraging them to explore options beyond the limited choices they may be aware of. He pointed out that while nursing and teaching colleges are valid options, students should not limit themselves to these alone.
The event also featured a speech from the president of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Kyereh Oppong Daniel, who shared his personal journey of academic achievement and encouraged students to seize opportunities beyond the borders of the North.
One of the students in attendance, who had initially planned to pursue a nursing program, expressed her newfound interest in exploring other career paths thanks to the information she gained at the fair. Similarly, another student noted how the event had helped change his perspective on how to tackle challenges.
Mr. Kyereh also highlighted the importance of increased funding for the education sector, particularly through the uncapping of the GETFund. He emphasized that improved infrastructure in schools and universities would ultimately make education more accessible and affordable for students.
The educational fair organized by the School of Thought provided a valuable platform for students to learn about the multitude of opportunities available to them and to consider a broader range of career paths.
