The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has shown its continued support for the National Pensioners Association (NPA) by presenting a GH¢1 million cheque.

The elderly who are eligible for healthcare benefits under the NPA’s elderly Medical Scheme (PMS) are the target audience for this donation. The management of SSNIT has fulfilled its 2017 commitment to prioritize the well-being of the country’s pensioners under the SSNIT Scheme with this contribution. The Trust has previously demonstrated its commitment to supporting the NPA.

SSNIT contributed GH¢300,000.00 and GH¢500,000.00, respectively, to the Pensioners Medical Scheme in 2018 and 2019. SSNIT also gave the NPA a brand-new Toyota Hilux double cabin pickup truck in 2021 to help with member mobility issues.

In fact, this pledge shows how committed the Trust is to carrying out its social duty to all SSNIT Scheme retirees who made contributions to the country’s labor during their working years.

Speaking at a ceremony to present the NPA’s leadership with a check at the SSNIT Pension House in Accra, Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, Director-General of SSNIT, reiterated the Trust’s commitment to the Association’s welfare and operations.

He clarified that over the years, the Trust has been guided and assisted in fortifying the relationship between SSNIT and the NPA by the value that SSNIT places on pensioners.

“There will undoubtedly be more donations to the Association after this most recent one. As part of our social duty to provide a little more comfort for you, our beloved retirees, we will occasionally offer assistance to you whenever we can.”

“As you may remember, in order to help members manage their businesses, we built and refurbished office space for the Association. Additionally, in 2018 and 2019, we contributed GH¢800,000.00 to the Association’s Medical Scheme. According to Dr. Ofori-Tenkorang, I know these have significantly improved the wellbeing of Pensioners within the Association.”

Mr. Stephen Boakye, the NPA’s general secretary, thanked the SSNIT management for continuing to support the Pensioners Medical Scheme.

He guaranteed that the money would be used for its proper purpose and acknowledged the friendly connection that exists between the NPA and SSNIT, especially under the current management of SSNIT.

Mr. Confidence Kofi Adjayi, a recipient, emphasized the Pensioner Medical Scheme’s helpful role in his healthcare journey. He emphasized that every time he went to the hospital, the Scheme always paid for his medical bills, especially those related to eye care.
