Former Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, has raised concerns about the lack of a corruption risk assessment by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) regarding the SML/GRA contract.
In a recent interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile program, Fuseini expressed disappointment with the delay in releasing a report on the contract following the release of The Fourth Estate documentary.
He pointed out that there are signs of corruption and conflicts of interest in the deal that need to be thoroughly investigated.
Fuseini also highlighted the apparent efforts to keep the contract hidden from the public, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in such matters.
The audit conducted by KPMG, a reputable auditing firm, revealed that Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) had received over GH¢1 billion since 2018 while only partially fulfilling its obligations under the contract.
Despite the findings, SML has contested the report, claiming that it validates the contract in its entirety.
President Akufo-Addo initiated the audit on January 2, 2024, in response to the Fourth Estate expose. Initially scheduled for completion by January 16, 2024, the deadline was extended to February 23, 2024, due to certain circumstances.
Fuseini stressed the importance of holding accountable those who misuse state funds, emphasizing the need for a transparent and thorough evaluation of the contract and its outcomes.
Ghanaians are eager for the OSP to conduct a corruption risk assessment and release a comprehensive report to address the concerns raised regarding the SML/GRA contract.
