Seven individuals have been remanded by a District court at Awutu Breku in the Central Region for allegedly assaulting a man whom they accused of using spiritual means to shrink another man’s private parts.
The victim, Ike Faith, was initially taken to the Senya Polyclinic but was later transferred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Winneba due to the severity of the beatings.
The accused individuals, identified as Prosper Bonney, Blessings Bonney, Emmanuel Baffoe, Kwame Arhinsan, Richard Quanssah, Gideon Amissah, and Emmanuel Otoo, appeared before the court. Prosper Bonney specifically faces charges of publishing false news and deceiving public officers. Additionally, all seven accomplices are implicated in charges of causing unlawful harm, assault, and conspiracy to commit a crime related to causing harm.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Sarfo and Chief Inspector Bernice Wie Kpuusuu, opposed the granting of bail as the investigation is ongoing. Despite Victor Yankson’s appeal for bail on behalf of Prosper and Blessing, the court presided over by Naomi A. A. Kuntuor adjourned the case to April 26 for the accused persons’ pleas to be formally recorded.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on April 9, 2024, when a group of angered youth accused Ike Faith of using spiritual means to shrink Prosper Bonney’s private parts. The altercation escalated, leading to Ike Faith being severely beaten. The complainant, a teacher at Senya Beraku “C’ Basic School, reported the incident to the police, prompting the arrest of the accused individuals.
The prosecution alleges that Prosper Bonney claimed his private parts started shrinking after interacting with Ike Faith and sought intervention through prayers. Blessing Bonney reportedly used anointing oil to pray for Prosper, resulting in the apparent reversal of the perceived shrinkage. The victim, Ike Faith, suffered injuries from the assault and required medical attention at the hospital.
