A small plane crashes into a Florida trailer park, killing several people. The NTSB and FAA will also be looking into the tragedy.

According to the BBC, a small plane crashed into a trailer park in Florida on Thursday, setting many homes on fire and killing multiple people.

In Clearwater, just south of the Clearwater Mall, in the Bayside Waters mobile home community, a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35 went down. Before vanishing, air traffic control heard the pilot call a mayday.

The number of passengers on board is unknown, however, according to Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department, “several fatalities, both from the aircraft and within the mobile home,” were caused by the incident.

Scott Ehlers, the chief of Clearwater Fire Department, told reporters that one of the four “heavily involved” trailers was hit by the tiny plane. He said that the fires were “quickly extinguished.”

Additionally, according to the fire chief, three of the homes were searched and no victims were discovered. Mr. Ehlers said that although residents were inside the aircraft when it crashed, they were able to escape to safety.

Investigators are still trying to get close to the trailer that the plane struck immediately. Officials stated that they thought the pilot had passed away.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed in a statement that the aircraft was a Beechcraft Bonanza V35 single-engine aircraft that had reported an “engine failure” just before the disaster.

The announcement further stated, “The number of people on board is unknown at this time.”
