The Ministry of Health has confirmed that negotiations have started with the Ministry of Finance to get funding for the Rotational Nurses and Midwifery Association (RNMA) to be paid allowances.
This was revealed by Public Relations Officer (PRO) Isaac Baah Offei in response to a two-week ultimatum from the association.
“In order to obtain the release of funds so that we can pay them, the Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance.”
As we previously stated, the problem relates to the approval we need to obtain from the Ministry of Finance in order to pay them.
In an interview with Citi FM in Accra, he stated, “It will be challenging for the Ministry of Health to claim that they are paying the rotational nurse until that is done.”
On February 5, Association members threatened to hold a nonviolent, one-week long protest in response to the government’s delay in granting financial clearance.
They lamented that their needs had gone unmet by the government and that their attempts to seek justice had been ineffective.
Although they have promised to work on it, Mr. Offei has advised patience and declined to provide a timeframe. He is hopeful that the money will be released shortly, though.
“We anticipate resolving this as soon as possible, and we are extremely optimistic about the amount of work and negotiations that have gone on,” he said.
