He gained notoriety for having a clean-shaven head, which he carried with him as a personal brand even after he adopted it for “The King and I.” The father of Yul Brynner, Boris Yuliyevich Briner, was a mining engineer with Russian and Swiss ancestry, while the mother, Marousia Blagovidova, worked as a physician.

Yul Brynner was a Russian-born actor best known for playing King Mongkut in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s stage musical “The King and I.” This performance earned him two Tony Awards and, for the film adaptation, an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture.
