The reconstruction of the 66-kilometre Agona-Nkwanta to Tarkwa road in the Western Region is making significant progress, with the project currently 80 per cent complete.
The Site Manager, Peter Quarshie, has indicated that the entire project is expected to be finished by the end of August this year.
During a recent tour of major road project sites in the Western Region, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye, received an update on the state of the road. Accompanied by officials from the Ghana Highway Authority, Department of Urban Roads, and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, the Minister was briefed on the scope of the reconstruction project.
The project, which commenced in 2021 at a cost of 95 million Euros, is being carried out by M/S Gabriel Couto-Rango Consortium with funding from the Deutche Bank AG, Frankfurt, Germany. The construction involves various aspects such as concrete works, including drains, pipe and box culverts, as well as asphaltic concrete layers, walkways, medians, streetlights, traffic signs, and markings.
Mr Quarshie assured the Roads and Highways Minister that the contractor is committed to meeting the project deadline of August 30. Mr Asenso-Boakye expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work done so far, highlighting the positive impact the completed project will have on the socio-economic activities along the corridor.
In addition to the Agona-Nkwanta to Tarkwa road, the Minister also assessed the progress of other ongoing projects in the region, including the dualisation of the Sekondi to Takoradi road and repair works on the Nkroful Junction–Ketan to Kojokrom Junction- Kojokrom Market Road. Plans for road construction at Mpohor, dualisation of Takoradi to Agona-Nkwanta, and Shama Junction-Shama roads are also underway to improve the road infrastructure in the area.
The government is committed to providing sustainable growth through the development of good road infrastructure in various parts of the country.
The ongoing projects in the Western Region are a testament to this commitment and will enhance the transportation network and living standards of the residents in the region.
