Raymond had three children namely Timothy, Jevan, and Kiera.

While working as a tennis coach, he met his wife, Donna Terry. He responded to the altar call after she invited him to the 1957 Billy Graham crusade at Madison Square Garden. Raymond and Donna married a year after he graduated from medical school and had three children with his wife Donna Terry.

Raymond stated that he became interested in cancer detection when he was 10 years old and witnessed his maternal grandmother, with whom he was very close, die painfully of breast cancer.

Damadian won several awards. Damadian received the Lemelson-MIT Prize Program’s $100,000 Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 as “the man who invented the MRI scanner.”
