The Ministry of Railways Development has confirmed a recent collision involving a new DMU train on the Tema Railway line.
The incident, which occurred during a site acceptance test on Thursday, April 18, saw the train collide with a stationary vehicle that was blocking the railway track.
Despite the train applying the emergency brake, it was unable to completely avoid the collision, resulting in minor damage to the driver’s cab. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the accident.
In a statement released by the Ministry, it was pointed out that the stationary vehicle was not authorized to be on the railway track, as the location was not designated as a level crossing. The authorities have notified the police, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The DMU train involved in the accident has been taken to the workshop for further assessment and repairs. The Ministry has emphasized that safety remains their top priority and reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring the safe operation of railway systems. They have also urged all stakeholders to adhere to safety protocols when using or crossing railway tracks.
