The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has come under scrutiny for not releasing a load-shedding timetable to the public.’

In response, Senior Presidential Advisor, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, has indicated that the decision to publish such a schedule lies with the Minister of Energy.

During an interview with TV3’s Duke Mensah-Opoku, Osafo-Maafo emphasized that the Minister of Energy has the authority to order the publication of a load-shedding timetable.

He explained that the Minister is in the best position to analyze the generation and utilization of power before determining a rationing schedule.

The lack of a clear timetable has led to calls from the public for the government to provide more transparency on the issue. Governance Expert Professor Baffuor Agyeman-Duah has also weighed in, stating that releasing a schedule would allow individuals to plan their daily activities effectively.

Criticism has also been directed at the government for its perceived slow response to addressing the power challenges. Professor Agyeman-Duah expressed disappointment in the government’s approach, urging them to take more urgent action to find lasting solutions to the issue.

On the other hand, Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), acknowledged the frustrations caused by the recent power outages. He attributed the outages to maintenance work being carried out by ECG and assured the public that the situation would soon improve.

Despite the criticism from members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ahiagbah remained optimistic about the future of the country’s power supply. He highlighted the government’s efforts to address the challenges and assured the public that uninterrupted power supply would soon be restored.

As the debate continues over the lack of a load-shedding timetable, it is evident that stakeholders are calling for more transparency and proactive measures to resolve the ongoing power outages.
