Presidential Candidate of Movement for Change, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has put forth a visionary development plan that aims to revolutionize the funding of road infrastructure in Ghana.
His proposal involves incentivizing the private sector to take on the financing of road projects, shifting away from the traditional method of government loans.
Kyerematen believes that the current practice of relying on government funds for road construction projects is unsustainable and often leaves the country with huge debts. He envisions a new approach where private investors, both local and foreign, are encouraged and supported to raise funds for road development initiatives.
Speaking after a successful campaign tour of the Western Region, Kyerematen expressed concern over the deplorable state of the region’s road network. He emphasized the need for a strategic shift in the way road projects are financed, stating that under his presidency, government budgetary resources would not be used for road funding.
The proposal includes tolling all major roads to generate revenue for infrastructure projects, while allowing private investors to play a significant role in the development process. Kyerematen cited examples of successful public-private partnerships in other sectors, such as ports, and advocated for similar models in road infrastructure development.
Furthermore, the presidential candidate addressed the issue of illegal mining, or ‘galamsey’, which continues to pose a significant challenge in the Western Region. Kyerematen acknowledged the complexity of the problem and called for a comprehensive approach that involves small-scale miners and stakeholders in finding a sustainable solution.
He proposed a business model that would empower local miners to become owners of mining companies, under strict regulations to ensure environmental protection and adherence to best practices. Kyerematen emphasized the importance of supporting youth in the mining sector with the necessary resources and training to operate legally and responsibly.
With these innovative proposals, Alan Kyerematen aims to transform the infrastructure and mining sectors in Ghana, paving the way for sustainable development and economic growth.
