Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch), an advocacy group, is requesting a statement from the Ghana Education Service (GES) about the death of an Aburi Girls Senior High School (SHS) first-year student.
Kofi Asare, the Executive Secretary, has questioned GES’s silence four days after the regrettable occurrence became public.
What is the purpose of the NHIS card that all students must have? He insisted that Ghana Education Service make a statement on the subject right now.
Mr. Asare asked insightful questions on Facebook regarding the circumstances behind the premature demise.
“Has the GES not released a statement regarding the SHS 1 Aburi Girls student’s alleged death at school? According to sources, the girl remained at school for several days due to her illness, until her parents came from Ablekuma to transport her to a hospital that was only a short distance from the school.
“The hospital reported that she was brought in dead. Why was she kept in school by the administration until she “died”? When a hospital is only a few minutes away, is it common procedure for school administrators to phone parents to arrange for them to go take their ill children there? Mr. Asare questioned.
Stacy Okyere, 16, is said to have fallen away on Sunday, February 4, while the specifics of the tragic event remain unclear. It is believed that Stacy was accepted into the school around one month ago.
Her family is requesting a comprehensive independent investigation to find out the truth, accusing the school administration of incompetence.
