In a bid to address the growing demand for tertiary education in Ghana, President Akufo-Addo has announced plans for the establishment of four new universities.
The President made this announcement while receiving his fifth honorary doctorate from Valley View University, reaffirming his government’s commitment to improving education quality and accessibility.
Highlighting the government’s support for private tertiary institutions, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need to enhance education standards. Initiatives such as comprehensive teacher training programs, curriculum enhancements, and the integration of digital tools aim to enrich teaching and learning experiences.
The four new universities are set to be located in Mampong (Ashanti region), Akrodie (Bono region), Bunso (Eastern Region), and Kintampo (Bono East region). Additionally, existing university facilities will be expanded to accommodate a higher enrollment capacity.
With a target to increase tertiary enrollment to 40% by 2030 from the current rate of 18.84%, President Akufo-Addo also aims to achieve a balanced science-to-humanities enrollment ratio of 60:40. These objectives align with the country’s educational strategic plan spanning from 2019 to 2020.
The President urged citizens to reject any presidential aspirant seeking to review the Free Senior High School program, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing accessible and quality education for all.
