President Nana Akufo-Addo has come under fire from political science lecturer and analyst, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, for his recent comments about not wanting to be succeeded by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, whom he defeated twice.
Dr. Otchere criticized the President for what he called an “inherent illogicality” in his remarks, pointing out that Mr. Mahama also defeated President Akufo-Addo in 2012, yet during the 2016 election campaign, the former President did not make similar statements.
Speaking at a mini-rally in Doboro, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his lack of confidence in Mr. Mahama’s ability to develop the country. He urged supporters to vote for Dr. Bamwua, whom he has worked with for the past seven and a half years, expressing confidence in his ability to continue the work he has started.
During an appearance on 3FM’s news analysis program Hot Edition, Dr. Asante Otchere emphasized the importance of a smooth transfer of power and criticized the President for his remarks, stating that they could pose a challenge to the Bawumia campaign.
He suggested that President Akufo-Addo’s stance could be a distraction for Dr. Bawumia, hindering him from establishing himself as his own man in the upcoming elections.
As the political landscape heats up in Ghana, it remains to be seen how these dynamics will play out in the lead-up to the elections. Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving political scene in Ghana.
