The Ghana Police Service has apprehended the driver of a Hyundai truck with registration number GS 9018 – 20 for his involvement in a collision with a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train along the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.

The incident took place on Thursday, April 18, 2024, and the details were outlined in a press release by the Ghana Police Service.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the police, the driver abandoned the vehicle on the railway line, which ultimately led to the collision with the train.

The investigation is still ongoing to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the accident.

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Railways Development confirmed that a new DMU train collided with a stationary vehicle during a site acceptance test on the Tema Railway line.

The collision occurred at Km76+100 when the train encountered the vehicle blocking the railway track while approaching a curve.

Despite the train’s immediate application of the emergency brake, it was unable to come to a complete stop and ended up colliding with the stationary vehicle.

The Ministry clarified the sequence of events leading to the accident and assured that further investigations would be conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future.
