The tragic death of a 20-year-old welding apprentice, Felix Ayertey, has sparked investigations by the police in the Eastern region. Ayertey was reportedly electrocuted at his workplace in Akwadum, under circumstances that are still unclear.
After being rushed to the Effiduase St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua, Ayertey was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was then taken to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy and preservation. Authorities, including the police and personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), visited the scene to gather more information and take inventories.
Kankam Twumasi, the New Juaben North Municipal Deputy Director of NADMO, confirmed the incident, stating, “In the morning around 10 am, we received a call from Akwadum Police Station that there had been an incident. A young man aged 20 named Felix Aryertey who is a welding apprentice has been electrocuted at Akwadum near the Chief’s house. So we had to mobilise ourselves and get to the scene to take our assessment.”
He added, “But when we got there, the Akwadum police officers had already been there and the body had been moved to the mortuary. So we had to follow up to the Effiduase police station to take details of the boy as indicated on the report.”
