The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has commended the government for introducing a performance tracker that he describes as a groundbreaking initiative.
According to him, no previous government has ever taken such a step towards promoting transparency and accountability in the implementation of infrastructure projects across the country.
The performance tracker was officially launched on Wednesday, April 10, with the aim of keeping the public informed about the progress of various projects. However, the government admitted on Friday that there were 67 inaccuracies in the list of projects displayed on the tracker during its launch.
This confession has sparked criticism, especially from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Despite this backlash, Mr. Ahiagbah maintains that the tracker is a remarkable innovation and believes that the NDC’s attempts to discredit it will not succeed.
In an interview with Selorm Adonoo on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Mr. Ahiagbah expressed his pride in the initiative, stating, “I think that this is an ingenious initiative by the party, no government has done this. We have done this in full disclosure to our citizens to say that you give us mandate, we use that mandate, now this what we have done with it, take a look and we are accounting fully to you. And I think that it is an exceptional happening. And the NDC’s effort to jump on it is not going to materialize.”
The performance tracker is seen as a significant tool in enhancing accountability and ensuring that development projects are completed efficiently and effectively. Despite the initial errors, the government remains committed to using the tracker to keep the public informed and hold officials accountable for their actions and decisions.
