Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has commended the government for introducing the Performance Tracker, a platform that aims to enhance transparency and accountability in infrastructure projects nationwide.
However, Kpebu expressed his belief that the government should prioritize the implementation of a Code of Conduct for public officeholders over the Performance Tracker, citing corruption as the country’s biggest problem.
During an appearance on the Key Points on TV3, Kpebu emphasized the importance of the Code of Conduct for public officers in addressing the issue of corruption. He stated, “It is important but I will rank the code of conduct above the performance tracker.”
Meanwhile, Sissala East lawmaker Amidu Issahaku Chinnia acknowledged the significance of the Performance Tracker in improving governance, despite the 67 errors that were identified shortly after its launch. Chinnia highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in governance and stated that the identified errors should not undermine the overall purpose of the tracker.
The government, through the Information Ministry, promptly corrected the 67 wrong entries on the Performance Tracker platform, just 72 hours after its launch. The Ministry acknowledged the errors and expressed appreciation to the public for their scrutiny and interest in the platform.
The post on the Performance Tracker’s official social media handle highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring accuracy and integrity in the information presented on the platform. It also addressed the inclusion of 74 projects that had been mistakenly omitted but were subsequently added.
Minister of Works and Housing Kojo Oppong Nkrumah emphasized the critical role of the Performance Tracker in ensuring accountability and transparency in infrastructure projects across the country.
He revealed that the platform features over 13,000 projects and serves as an improved version of the Delivery Tracker unveiled by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2020.
