Performance tracker is a vote buying gimmick – Beatrice Annan

The recently launched Performance Tracker by the government has come under fire from the spokesperson of the John Mahama campaign team, Beatrice Annan. Annan has labeled the tracker as a tactic to deceive the public in order to win votes.

Introduced on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, at GIMPA in Accra, the Performance Tracker is said to promote transparency and accountability in the implementation of infrastructure projects across the country. The tool aims to address concerns regarding the accuracy and reliability of project presentations, particularly the use of artist’s impressions to portray results.

However, the government admitted on Friday, April 12, that 67 entries on the list of projects displayed on the Performance Tracker were included in error. The Ministry of Information disclosed this information through a social media post, thanking the public for showing interest in the tracker.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Beatrice Annan criticized the government for spreading falsehoods during challenging economic times instead of being truthful. She accused the government of using the tracker as a way to mislead the people and gain votes.

Annan stated, “We think that it is a vote-catching gimmick or it is just calculated to mislead people because there are too many lies contained in that tracker. We started exposing the lies some hours after the tracker was launched. And this morning government itself has come out to admit that true to our accountability, 67 lies have been deleted because many people have detected them.”

She continued, “So, I don’t know why this government has set a very low standard for public governance systems as we speak. Because one would expect that in accounting to the people for the period that you have been in power, the least you can do in an era when you have the highest inflation rate in an era where unemployment is highest in 40 years, in an era where pensioners do not have access to their invested funds, the government would at least be candid and show some level of honesty.”
