Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Rockson Dafeamekpor, has emphasized the need for a reduction in the workload of judges in order to enhance the efficiency of the justice delivery system in Ghana.
Dafeamekpor, speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, highlighted that while judges are competent and capable, the overwhelming number of cases assigned to them can impede their ability to deliver justice effectively.
Contrary to the belief that judges are inefficient, Dafeamekpor stressed that it is the heavy workload that hinders their performance. He advocated for the implementation of an automated system to assign cases to judges more efficiently.
The call for reduced workload for judges comes in the wake of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s press conference, where she outlined measures aimed at improving the justice system. Torkornoo emphasized the importance of allocating more resources to the judiciary to enhance their services, noting that the current manual administrative system causes delays in operations.
Echoing Dafeamekpor’s sentiments, lawyer Kofi Bentil emphasized the need for more transparency in the justice delivery system, particularly at the lower court level. Bentil suggested that investing in more justices at the lower court and implementing transparency measures would help alleviate the workload on judges and improve the overall trust of the populace in the system.
