The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has recently filed new charges against Adjenim Boateng Adjei, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA). These charges, filed on 17 April 2024, come after allegations of misuse of public office for personal gain and manipulation of the procurement process for unfair advantages in securing contracts.
Adjei is facing a total of eight charges related to these offenses. Interestingly, one charge against his brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku, has been dropped. The case was brought to the attention of the OSP by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following an investigative documentary titled Contracts for Sale, conducted by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni and aired by the Multimedia Group.
Initially charged alongside his brother-in-law on 25 May 2022, Adjei is accused of being the majority shareholder in Talent Discovery Limited, with his brother-in-law holding a minority stake. The accusations suggest that Talent Discovery Limited was used as a front to secure public contracts.
Both Adjei and his brother-in-law are currently standing trial on corruption and corruption-related offenses. They have been granted GH¢5 million bail with two sureties to be justified. The case continues to be a matter of public interest and scrutiny as it unfolds.
