The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has been commended for the introduction of an online registration system known as the NSS Metric App.
This new system has streamlined the registration process for prospective service personnel and eliminated over 14,000 ghost names from the system.
According to Armstrong Esaah, the Head of Corporate Affairs at NSS, the Metric App has artificial intelligence security measures in place, preventing impersonation and saving Ghana millions of cedis. The introduction of this app has also made registration more efficient, eliminating the need for personnel to queue for days at NSS district offices.
The NSS Metric App was implemented in the 2021–2022 service year with the goal of accelerating the registration process and enhancing security measures to prevent impersonation. Prospective service personnel are required to complete an online form and undergo face scanning using the app at district offices, where their Ghana cards are authenticated and validated.
Armstrong Esaah, speaking on Onua FM’s Etifi Nsem Show, praised the Executive Director of NSS, Osei Assibey Antwi, and the management for their innovative schemes. He highlighted the impact of the Metric App in preventing the payment of allowances to unqualified individuals, potentially saving the country GHC112 million.
Looking ahead, Esaah revealed that the NSS management is preparing for a partnership agreement that will allow the deployment of personnel to foreign countries for their national service. He expressed hope that the Parliament of Ghana will swiftly pass the NSS policy for 2024–2034, which includes a comprehensive review of the Scheme’s operations.
