The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) of Ghana has reported a reduction in the number of road traffic crashes, injuries, and deaths (CIDs) between February 2022 and February 2023.
According to the government agency, there has been a consistent month-on-month decline in CIDs in the country, with provisional statistics from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service showing a 7.%, 1.5%, and 20% reduction in crashes, injuries, and deaths, respectively, compared to 2021.
For January and February 2023, there were 15.35%, 8.27%, and 31.56% reductions in CIDs compared to the same period in 2022.
The NRSA attributed the decline in accidents to its continuous engagement with the public through the media and its strong collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, as well as the contributions of stakeholders.
It also praised the reduction in commercial vehicles, private vehicles, and motorcycles involved in crashes during the two-month review period. However, the NRSA emphasized the need for all road users to exercise caution, especially as the country prepares for Easter festivities.
