The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is anticipating a resounding victory in the Ejisu by-election, with the confidence that it will pave the way for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s triumph in the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024.

Richard Ahaigbah, the Director of Communications for the NPP, expressed this optimism, emphasizing that the electorate in Ejisu will rally behind Kwabena Boateng, the NPP candidate, who occupies the second position on the ballot.

A total of over 100,000 voters are participating in the by-election to select the successor of the late Dr. John Kumah as the representative for the constituents of Ejisu Constituency in Parliament.

The six candidates vying for the seat include Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former Member of Parliament running as an independent candidate, Kwabena Boateng from the NPP, Esther Osei from the Convention People’s Party, Beatrice Boakye from the Liberal Party of Ghana, as well as independent candidates Freduah Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph.

Despite claims from one of the independent candidates’ camps about potential ballot box stuffing, the Electoral Commission (EC) assured the public that the voting process will be conducted with integrity and transparency.

Benjamin Bannor-Bio, the Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, debunked the allegations, citing the transparent nature of the ballot boxes and the vigilant oversight of the electoral process.

Candidates have been advised to select effective agents who are well-versed in the electoral procedures to ensure a fair and just electoral process.

The EC has guaranteed that there will be no delays in the 204 polling stations, reaffirming their commitment to upholding the sanctity of the electoral system.

This assurance comes amidst heightened scrutiny and speculation surrounding the by-election in Ejisu and the broader implications for the political landscape leading up to the December elections.
