The New Patriotic Party’s candidate emerged victorious in the recent by-election held in the Ejisu Constituency, beating five other candidates.
Among the contenders were Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an independent candidate with ties to the NPP, Esther Osei of the Convention People’s Party, Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party of Ghana, as well as independent candidates Fredauh Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph.
According to the Electoral Commission’s declaration, Kwabena Boateng secured 55.79% of the total votes cast, while his main rival, Kwabena Aduomi, garnered 43.24% of the votes. This outcome was based on results collected from all 204 polling stations, with Kwabena Boateng receiving 27,782 votes compared to Kwabena Aduomi’s 21,536 votes.
The voter turnout for the by-election was 49,780 out of an expected 100,000 voters. The vacancy in the Ejisu Constituency was created by the passing of the incumbent MP, Dr. John Kumah, in March due to a brief illness.
