Yendi MP Farouk Aliu Mahama is alleged to have assaulted Citi TV/FM correspondent Mohammed Aminu M. Alabira. The Northern Regional Police Command has opened an investigation into the incident.
Alabira’s report to the Yendi Divisional Police Command prompted the start of the investigation. Particularly in seats with sitting Members of Parliament, the purported occurrence happened during the weekend’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries.
In his live report on the electoral chaos, Alabira explained that he asked Mr. Mahama for his perspective. On the other hand, he said that in addition to the MP slapping him, the MP’s followers also attacked him and took his phone.
A rapid response from law police to address the reported attack has been prompted by the overwhelming condemnation of the occurrence.
“It was the MP [Farouk Aliu Mahama] who slapped me, and his people kicked me and took my phone away. I was reporting on the violence that was happening during the counting process, so I asked the MP why that was happening, and he got up and came and slapped me, and his people also started beating me up,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM.
The journalist claimed that although he had no physical wounds, he was traumatized, which had interfered with his ability to sleep.
