No more drunk Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper as CNN ends New Year’s Eve on-air drinking

Don Lemon is unlikely to be downing shots on television during CNN’s presentation of various New Year’s Eve events in 2022.

As we enter a new year, New Year’s Eve is meant to symbolize a new beginning. The last night of the year is a time to reflect on the successes of the previous 365 days and plan how to improve on them in the coming year.

Additionally, Anderson Cooper, Andy Cohen, and Don Lemon, CNN’s New Year’s Eve correspondents, typically use the occasion to celebrate the end of a successful reporting year by getting wasted on live television from Times Square.

However, CNN, who regrettably despises enjoyment, has put a stop to the drunken celebrations as we get closer to 2023.

The widespread on-camera drinking had a severe impact on the network’s “respectability,” putting into doubt its reliability as a news source, CNN chairman and CEO Chris Licht told colleagues during a town-hall meeting, according to Variety.

Although Ryan Seacrest’s ABC program normally draws larger TV audiences, CNN’s coverage of New Year’s Eve has grown to be associated with the occasion.

Cooper has been the auld lang syne fixture since 2002 and has held his New Year’s Eve duties longer than the ABC host. Initially hesitant to embrace the idea, Cooper was initially motivated by his own ambivalence about the holiday.

Cohen’s impact has served to brighten the tone in recent years. The Bravo anchor isn’t afraid to drink, make gestures, or rant.

He has used the CNN New Year’s Eve platform to criticize the previous mayor of New York City, Bill DeBlasio, or to pressure Cooper into taking more shots than is generally prudent for a TV host of a major program.

When people ask what I do for fun, I tell 'em, “I write.”
