The Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, recently addressed thousands of young people during the Cape Coast Archdiocesan Youth Rally of the Roman Catholic Church. He advised the youth to be cautious of their social media consumption, especially on platforms like TikTok, which he believes leads to unproductivity and noise.
During the event, attended by about 2,000 youths from various deaneries in the Central Region, the Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, emphasized the importance of the youth being committed to their church and country. He encouraged them to utilize their talents for the benefit of society and not underestimate their potential for success in Ghana.
Following the rally, Archbishop Palmer-Buckle highlighted the negative impact of excessive noise exposure on the health of the youth. He emphasized the need for them to manage their social media usage and prioritize their physical and mental well-being. The Archbishop also stressed the significance of maintaining focus during religious activities, such as Holy Mass, to cultivate discipline in the house of God.
The Cape Coast Archdiocesan Youth Rally, modeled after the World Youth Day celebration, aims to promote unity and spirituality among young Catholics. Themed “Those who hope in the Lord will not be weary,” the event serves as a platform for the youth to bond, exchange ideas, and engage in prayer sessions.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Archbishop Palmer-Buckle reiterated the church’s commitment to nurturing the youth as they are considered the future of both the church and the country. He emphasized the church’s responsibility to not only cater to their spiritual needs but also prioritize their overall health and well-being.
The rally’s Youth Chaplain, Rev. Father James Yaw Nkum, emphasized the importance of patience and faith in God among the youth. He expressed the need for young people to stay focused amid distractions in the modern world and emphasized the significance of communal prayer and fellowship in guiding them back on track.
Overall, the Cape Coast Archdiocesan Youth Rally serves as a vital platform for young Catholics to connect, share experiences, and deepen their faith in a supportive and spiritually enriching environment.
