Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has emphasized her party’s commitment to addressing the issues and challenges faced by women in Ghana.
During her official unveiling, the former Education Minister highlighted that a new government led by John Mahama would prioritize implementing flexible measures in the proposed 24-hour economy to ensure that women reap the maximum benefits.
One key proposal outlined in the NDC’s 2020 manifesto is the extension of maternity leave for women, aiming to provide them with more support during the crucial postpartum period. Additionally, women entrepreneurs will have improved access to capital to help grow their businesses.
Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang also announced plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank, intended to nurture and elevate women-owned and women-led businesses. She stressed the importance of empowering women economically and creating opportunities for them to thrive independently.
The running mate expressed confidence in the 24-hour economy envisioned by John Mahama, believing it will bring about significant positive changes for the country. She noted that the policy has garnered support from various stakeholders, especially the youth, who see it as a transformative initiative.
In her address, Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang praised John Mahama’s meticulous approach to decision-making, highlighting his willingness to listen to diverse perspectives and adapt his views based on the best alternatives. She emphasized the importance of skills training in preparing for the demands of a 24-hour economy.
