Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced plans to introduce a new mode of financing education infrastructural projects under his administration if elected president this year.

This initiative aims to avoid huge initial government outlays and delays in the completion of infrastructure projects in senior high schools.

Dr Bawumia made these comments during a meeting with National Executives of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) at the Jubilee House in Accra.

He mentioned that the national executives of CHASS provided valuable contributions to improving the free Senior High School Policy and education in general.

In a Facebook post following the meeting, Dr Bawumia explained his vision of utilizing the private sector and an enhanced credit system to expand educational infrastructure and support teaching and non-teaching staff for improved educational outcomes. He emphasized the importance of leveraging private sector resources to build infrastructure like dormitories and classrooms, which the government would later rent and own.

The Vice President expressed his excitement about the prospects of this policy proposal and highlighted the benefits it would bring in reducing the educational infrastructure deficit, enhancing maintenance, improving education quality, and managing government expenditure effectively.

He thanked the leadership of CHASS for their honest and fruitful discussions, emphasizing that the proposed financing model is a viable solution to address infrastructure challenges in senior high schools.
