Social media users have expressed their outrage towards John Dumelo, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West-Wuogon, for his recent comments against Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the NPP MP for the same constituency.
During TV3’s community manifesto on Wednesday, August 28, Dumelo made a controversial statement, accusing Alhassan of killing her husband to secure her position as MP.
The incident occurred when Dumelo was outlining his vision and policies for the constituency, and NPP supporters started chanting “V8″ in reference to Dumelo’s involvement in a scandal where he acquired a state-owned Toyota Landcruiser V8.
In response to the chants, Dumelo lashed out, saying, “If they want to go that tangent, it is also fair to say that maybe Lydia is the one that killed her husband to become MP. Because if they want to go that tangent, I can also go that same tangent because this time around, its booth for booth.”
The actor turned politician’s comments have been widely criticized on social media, with many users deeming them as distasteful and disrespectful. Some have even called for Dumelo to apologize for his remarks.
In a tweet following the backlash, Dumelo offered his apologies, stating, “I apologize and retract the comments I made earlier on today on tv3.”
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining civility and respect in political discourse, especially during heated campaign periods.
