The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Ghana recently made a significant interception of 20.5 kilogrammes of concealed cannabis parcels that were intended for smuggling out of the country through postal and courier centres in Accra.
According to a statement released by NACOC on Facebook, their operations spanned three days and uncovered various attempts to transport illegal substances abroad. On the first day of the operation, officers discovered four parcels hidden in wrapped boxes headed for the United Kingdom. Subsequent investigations led to the detection of similar illicit activities in the following days.
The following day, officers intercepted an outbound parcel containing 21 slabs of compressed cannabis weighing 5.80 kilogrammes. On another occasion, two outbound parcels destined for the United Kingdom were seized, containing ten slabs of cannabis weighing 5.3 kilogrammes and an additional four slabs weighing 1.4 kilogrammes.
Further interceptions took place when officers discovered an EMS parcel containing concealed cannabis slabs weighing 5.3 kilograms, also bound for the United Kingdom. Another significant find occurred when officers detected black soap packaged with cannabis slabs in a bathing pail, weighing 2.10 kilograms and intended for transit to the United Kingdom.
Upon confirming the presence of narcotics in these parcels through field tests, they were swiftly transferred to NACOC Headquarters for further investigation. NACOC has intensified efforts to apprehend those involved in these illegal activities.
