The Minister-Designate for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, has announced that Naa Okromo will be reunited with her parents on Thursday, April 18, 2024. This decision comes after advice from the Attorney-General’s office, while a review of the docket is ongoing.
It has also been revealed that Naa Okromo’s mother has signed a bond to ensure that they will adhere to all children’s rights laws.
Medical tests conducted on the child confirmed that she is in good health and is not pregnant. The Minister-Designate emphasized that Naa Okromo will receive counseling and continue her education.
Naa Okromo was allegedly married to a 63-year-old man, sparking public outrage and concern. She has been under the protection of the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
According to the Nungua Traditional Council, Naa Okromo was ‘wedded’ to the 63-year-old man in a customary marriage ceremony. The Information Ministry stated that she has been under the care of the gender and chieftaincy ministries since the incident came to light.
Efforts have been made to ensure the well-being of Naa Okromo, including providing counseling and medical attention. The Social Welfare Department has also been involved in ensuring her safety and welfare.
