Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has inaugurated a 7,000-capacity multipurpose hall designed to host traditional and other events in the Ashanti region.
Known as the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall, the structure combines traditional Asante architectural elements with modern design.
The hall is expected to not only provide a venue for various functions but also promote the cultural heritage of the Asante kingdom. The entrance of the hall features a mural adorned with Asante artifacts and Adinkra symbols, with a prominent three-dimensional Golden Stool, “Sika Dwa Kofi”, at its center.
Constructed in the style of a traditional Asante house known as “Fi hankra”, the edifice includes a 2,000-capacity acoustic auditorium, offices, and an eatery. There is also a special chamber and office dedicated to the Asantehene within the facility.
Funded entirely by the Asantehene himself, the hall is part of the celebrations marking his silver jubilee, set to culminate in May. The Chairperson of Otumfuo’s 25th Anniversary Committee, Juabenhene Otuo Siriboe II, emphasized that the hall reflects the tradition of showcasing royal achievements during the Odwira festivities.
Queen mothers in the region expressed their appreciation for the hall, believing it will further elevate and preserve the cultural heritage of the Asante kingdom. The structure is also expected to boost economic activities in the Ashanti region.
