
As a gesture of respect for Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral, McDonald’s UK restaurants will be closed on Monday, September 19.
Around 1,300 of the fast food chain’s locations in the UK will be closed that day until 5 p.m.
King Charles III gave the go-ahead for a bank holiday throughout the entire United Kingdom on the day of his mother’s funeral.
The Queen, who has been the queen of Britain for the longest time, passed away on
Thursday at her Balmoral residence in Scotland.
Numerous companies, including John Lewis, Waitrose, Asda, Primark, and a host of others, have already announced they will be closed on Monday in the UK to observe the events.
McDonald’s decided to close the locations because they “want to allow our people to pay their respects in the way they chose,” a spokeswoman told the BBC.
In a tweet, McDonald’s said: “Our stores across the UK will be closed from midnight to 5pm on Monday, September 19th to honor HM Queen Elizabeth II and to allow everyone at McDonald’s to pay their respects.”
Additionally, deliveries won’t start until after 5 o’clock.
