Former Head of Operations Daniel Axim of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) disclosed that he received GH¢20,000 as a humanitarian present from his former employer, Sedina Attionu.
When questioned during the cross-examination as to why Sedina handed him GH¢20,000 in total, Daniel Axim replied that the prosecution had created the idea that it was money for a transaction.
Axim provided an explanation and disclosed the GH¢20,000 payment to EOCO in a statement that was submitted as an exhibit by the prosecution.
“During a conversation in the office, Sedina learned that I was doing infertility treatments for my deceased wife and that I had been married for 11 years without having children.”
She actually asked how I was paying for it given my low pay because she was aware of how pricey it was. She then made the decision to help me in modest ways whenever she felt like it.
It was not uncommon at all for political leaders to provide cash to employees on their own. He continued.
“The office is a small place so the political heads get involved with our private matters because they want votes all the time and also they want us to be committed to the work.” He gave an explanation.
In general, MASLOC is a financial organization that falls under the president’s office. Even if the board serves as a figurehead, the chief of staff is our direct supervisor and provides instructions to the CEO for implementation.
