Former President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to officials of the Akufo-Addo administration, stating that they will be held accountable for their actions if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerges victorious in this year’s elections.

During his address on Tuesday, April 16, the NDC flagbearer emphasized that any misappropriation of state funds by current government officials will not go unnoticed. Mahama made it clear that accountability for their actions is non-negotiable.

While addressing a gathering in the North East as part of his building Ghana tour, Mahama challenged the Akufo-Addo administration to showcase the projects that have been executed using the loans that were contracted. He expressed disappointment in the lack of visible projects despite the debts accumulated.

Mahama accused the current government of jeopardizing the future of the Ghanaian youth by accumulating debts through loans that have not translated into tangible development projects. He pointed out that it will be the young people of Ghana who will bear the burden of these debts, not the current administration.

The former president highlighted the significant amount of debt owed by Ghana, questioning who will bear the responsibility of paying off the staggering figure of GHS650bn. He criticized the lack of transformative projects in certain regions, despite the substantial loans acquired by the government.

In conclusion, Mahama reiterated the need for transparency and accountability in governance, stressing that all government officials must be answerable for their actions while in office. As the election season approaches, the issue of accountability and fiscal responsibility is likely to remain at the forefront of political debates in Ghana.
