The National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is in opposition, has denied Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s assertion that the Akufo-Addo administration has effectively addressed the country’s electricity problem, or dumsor.
The NDC rejected Dr. Bawumia’s claim, telling Ghanaians it is untrue and should be disregarded.
In his speech on Wednesday, February 7, Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, praised the accomplishments of the current administration, which he said included the resolution of the dumsor issue.
He credited a deliberate and determined government policy for this success.
“Our program was initially designed to achieve several goals, including stabilizing the economy, addressing youth unemployment, fixing the NHIS, fixing roads, clearing arrears, enhancing social protection for the most vulnerable members of society, industrializing our economy, and empowering farmers,” the speaker said.
The NDC, who praised former President John Mahama as a nation-builder, responded by denying Dr. Bawumia’s assertions in a press release, stating that the power crisis was truly addressed under his administration.
“President Mahama, the accomplished and ambitious nation builder, acknowledged responsibility for the issue and pledged to address it. He completely corrected DUMSOR and stopped load shedding by 2016.
