LVMH and Louis Vuitton – the companies Virgil Abloh worked for as its artistic director – have said they were shocked by the terrible news about the demise of the famous designer.

Virgil Abloh passed away on Sunday, November 28, after battling a deadly cancer called cardiac angiosarcoma for two years.

His family in a statement said: “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend.”

A few minutes after his family’s statement, LVMH and Louis Vuitton together with Virgil’s own company Off White released a statement saying they ‘are all shocked after this terrible news.’

The statement signed by Bernard Jean Étienne Arnault – the chairman and chief executive of LVMH Moët Hennessy and Louis Vuitton – said Virgil was  ‘not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom.’

“LVMH, Louis Vuitton and Off White are devastated to announce the passing of Virgil Abloh, on Sunday, November 28th, of cancer, which he had been battling privately for several years,” the statement said.

It added: “We are all shocked after this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family joins me in this moment of great sorrow, and we are all thinking of his loved ones after the passing of their husband, their father, their brother or their friend? – Bernard Arnault.”
